PRESS RELEASE

CMA Highlights Microfinance Sector Support for Front Soldiers and Displaced Households Affected by Border Conflict

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – January 16, 2026 – The Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA) today announced the key results of the microfinance sector’s coordinated response to support soldiers and households affected by the recent border conflicts, following the appeal of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN MANET Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the directive of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC).

Between mid-2025 and end-2025, CMA member institutions implemented targeted financial relief and humanitarian assistance to ease the burden on affected communities. Key results include:

  • USD 10.6 millions in interest has been waived for displaced households, helping affected families stabilize their finances during displacement and disruption.
  • USD 1 million in principal and interest has been written off for frontline soldiers, injured service members, and families of fallen heroes, recognizing their sacrifice and loss of income.
  • USD 340,000 and essential supplies have been raised and donated through CMA and its members, supporting frontline soldiers and displaced households across affected provinces.
  • USD 500 million in loans have been restructured to ease the financial burden on displaced families and other affected clients.

These measures were delivered alongside loan restructuring and other relief actions under NBC guidance, ensuring affected clients continued to access financial services without additional financial stress.

CMA, together with its members, remains committed to responsible finance and client protection, and will continue applying relief measures fairly and transparently, in line with the call of the government and NBC guidance, to support livelihoods of frontline soldiers and the recovery of affected communities.
