On April 16, 2026, the Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC) and Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA) released a statement in response to claims circulating on social media that some banks in Cambodia have had their cash frozen by the US.

ABC and CMA stated that the misleading information has caused “public confusion”, is irresponsible and harmful, raising public concern and undermining confidence in Cambodia’s banking and financial sector, calling it a “serious matter”.

The response comes after the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC)rejected rumours on April 14 about the accusations on social media about the issue.
