The Cambodia Microfinance Association (CMA) has released its Microfinance Insight for the Second Quarter (Q2) of 2026, offering a comprehensive snapshot of the country’s microfinance sector. Despite evolving economic dynamics and challenges, the data highlights continued resilience, widespread financial inclusion, and a sustained commitment to empowering communities, particularly women, across the Kingdom.
The Q2 2026 performance indicators demonstrate robust operational scale across lending, savings, and employment:
· Loan Portfolio & Borrowers: Total loan outstanding reached $5.54 billion USD, serving 1.33 million borrowers nationwide. Notably, women account for 57% of the borrower base, underlining the sector's vital role in supporting women's entrepreneurship and grassroots economic activity.
· Savings & Depositors: Public trust in regulated microfinance institutions remains strong, with total deposit balances standing at $2.66 billion USD across 1.78 million depositors. Demonstrating a strong culture of household savings, women represent an impressive 62.3% of all depositors.
· Nationwide Outreach & Employment: The sector maintains a deep grassroots presence through 646 offices operating across provinces and rural communities. These operations are powered by a dedicated workforce of 20,251 staff members, with female professionals comprising 29.2% of the total workforce.
As part of CMA's ongoing advocacy for transparency, responsible lending, and consumer protection, the Q2 2026 dashboard provides critical transparency on portfolio health and risk management metrics:
· Portfolio at Risk (PAR 30+): Standing at 12.8%, reflecting ongoing proactive monitoring and prudent risk mitigation strategies adopted by institutions to support struggling borrowers.
· Loan Restructuring: Accounted for 5.4%, demonstrating the continued flexibility and willingness of institutions to work cooperatively with clients facing temporary financial headwinds.
· Loan Write-Offs: Maintained at a controlled 1.2% (within Q2), illustrating disciplined asset quality management across the industry.
Early this year, AMK Microfinance Institution Plc, one of the sector's major deposit-taking institutions, successfully upgraded to a commercial bank license. This milestone transition accounts for a notable structural shift in the microfinance sector’s aggregate data comparison
The Q2 2026 insights reaffirm that Cambodia's microfinance sector is more than just financial intermediation; it is a catalyst for inclusive socio-economic development. By maintaining a strong focus on high savings participation among women, responsible lending frameworks, and structured restructuring protocols, CMA and its member institutions continue to safeguard the financial health of clients while fostering long-term sector stability.
